I recently had a presentation to do at uni as part of my critical and contextual module. All those who know me will know that I absolutely suck at talking in front of people, I panic and get all flustered and just forget everything I am supposed to be doing. We were told it would be better if we didnt use cue cards and me, thinking I'm better than I am, opted for not using them. FAIL. On the day nerves took over and I completely forgot everything I had wanted to say and had rehearsed and planned to say. I flustered and rushed my whole presentation through. Nervously skipping through all my slides as quickly as I could until it was over.

I do understand the importance of learning to present and that's why I turned up and gave it a go unlike some people who just didn't turn up, for whatever reason. One day whether I am working for a company or running my own company chances are I'm going to have to present. I will have to present my collection to buyers, stores, potential investors, everybody. So I need to learn at some point, why not now? The more practice the better eh?

If I had a chance to go back in time and do this presentation over again I would definately of have cue cards, it was my first presentation at university and I shouldn't have rushed myself. I should have used cue cards as my first try and eased off them by next year in time for my second presentation. I would also have included more information, I remember being told to write about our chosen person but don't make it a biography, so I tried to keep that bit to a minimum which, I realised from the other presentations, was a big mistake. I should have included a LOT more information which was annoying because I had done so much research! But me being me panicked and rushed through my whole thing without even mentioning half of the things I had researched. Next year I think I will be so much more prepared, I know what to expect now and I know what is expected of me.

I learnt a lot from the other presentations that I watched that day, I learnt new names, I learnt new theories, I learnt about new ways of design and about designers backgrounds. One particular designer stood out to me, Ying Gao. I want to keep this post to writing my review so I won't go too much into her on this post, the next post will be about her as I am inspired to research her and find out more. This designer also sparked a debate in our classroom, is she a designer? is she a scientist? Designers that spark debates and make people ask questions are, to me, the best kind...
