I chose to do a degree in the arts because I'm not amazingly skilled at writing. I can put something together but it's in no way academic. So, obviously, I was panicking when I learnt I had to write an essay every year and then a dissertation in my final year. I enlisted the help of a member of the HE department at university who helps students with essays, my appointment with her was booked the Monday we got back from Easter break and four days before my essay was due. My plan was to write as much as I could and get through it during the holidays and then she could help me harvard reference and edit my essay at my appointment.

Two things went wrong with this plan. Firstly, my Easter holiday was spent in and out of hospital getting scans and being admitted. Secondly, I had a phone call on Monday morning to say the lady I had an appointment with was ill and couldn't see me at all that week! I was well and truly stuck with this, on my own. I tried my absolute best with my essay, which I submitted today, but I know I did not do enough. I am more than prepared to re-visit and re-submit my essay in the Summer. I need to practice writing more and need to learn to Harvard Reference properly as I am not 100% sure whether I did it correctly.

My aim is still to come out of this degree with a first or at the very least a 2:1. To acheive this I am more than prepared to put the work in, I am giving up my time to do internships to gain experience, I have my studio set up at home so even when uni is finished I can still work just as hard at home. I will practice my writing more, I will make more appointments with the HE department to get my skills up to scratch for next time. I will smash this. Watch this space...
