Hazel McNab is an emerging textile designer and graduate of Central Saint Martins. Not many people have heard of her yet... but they will. I happened to chance upon Hazel on instagram and was so inspired by her work and her unique way of designing. We talk quite a lot through instagram now and I am in talks with her for a possible internship in the Summer.

I featured Hazel in my second semester studio module. I featured two of her design methods and adapted these in my own style. In her first style she takes first hand pictures from her travels and adapts and changes the contrast of these to make them into unidentifiable objects but into beautiful patterns. In her second she pulls out single elements of a design a paints them in her own style, she then turns these styles into beautiful prints.

I tried my own hand at doing this. I sourced a georgian embroidery print and picked an element. I then redrew this element (I used watercolours for this) with a new, fresher colour palette to update the image a little. Seeing how other artists work has really helped my own work to develop.

I think Hazel is a great example of a relevant contemporary artist to be considered. She has influenced the textiles work on this project and I will continue to follow and stay in contact with her in the future.
