After struggling quite a lot to attach the poppers (press studs) to our hood we decided to go down a different route after checking with Louise and Val. We've decided to sew a navy blue bias binding along the exposed edge of the hood but leave a length at either end for possible tying options.
I couldn't remember 100% how to sew bias binding on so I pulled out my folder from Fashion Construction last semester and reminded myself how to do it. After this I used the iron to press the bias binding in half and then fold either side in. I then opened this out and straight stitched along one edge to attach it to the hood.

I then folded the bias binding all the way over and effectively wrapping around the edge of the hood. I straight stitched along the edge, catching both sides and securing the bias binding down.

I finished the ends by tucking them in and encasing them with stitching.

We weren't sure how we were going to tie the hood onto the model and we had several ideas. We got somebody to try our jumpsuit on so that we could see which way would be best for the hood to be secured. First, we tried just a simple bow at the front but this looked too much like a childs bonnet. Secondly, we crossed the binding over the front of the body and fastened it at the back but this also looked like a Madonna throwout. Finally, we decided that the weight of the binding (although not much) was actually enough to hold the hood in place and could always be secured with grips on the night of the fashion show if needed. We are going to keep the binding strips long rather than trimming them.
